today is sunday.
have spent the day:
-in pajamas
-eating a wedge of brie i've been snacking on for 2 days
-watching copious amounts of tv (julia roberts movies on fx, entourage reruns, flavor of love)
-wishing i had read instead
-relaxing to the max
-uploading photos
-downloading weeds season 1, which i will watch after posting and before going to bed

last night i went to a todd p show with my friend carolyn. it was very, very amazing with bands like matt & kim, comets on fire, growing, excepter, dirty projectors, high places, vaz, etc. etc.
it started at around 2 and went on til late, but i only caught from about 6 pm - midnight and saw excepter, matt & kim, ex models, and comets on fire, because we were very, very tired from the night before!

excepter blew my mind. and at one point, the white dude with the bucket hat stuck his megaphone in this guy's face (actually, it was more like the guy's head was IN the megaphone), knocked him over, and shouted at him through the megaphone as he stood on top of him. i don't know what he was saying or why he did it, but a little while before that, the same dude whispered something in bucket-hat's ear during their set...that's my best guess.

anyway, he's the brah with the orange shirt and curly hair.

matt & kim were amazing and cute, as always. their fans are insane! everybody dancing, sweating, moshing(!) together.

ex models were better than i expected. carolyn liked them a lot. kid millions plays with them now, which i didn't know. and that guy from the seconds who plays guitar who's not the original guy was wearing a the sneeze shirt (it's green with what i think are dustin's fucked up (in a good way, dude!!) drawings all over it), but i couldn't get a picture of it.

my batteries ran out and i had forgotten spares, so i unfortunately didn't get pictures of comets on fire, but they were pretty incredible. in the middle of their set, some crazy stoner chicks knocked out the power, so they kept going for a solid 5 minutes with just drums, ooh-ing vocals, and hand claps. the power came back on, and it was pandemonium in the best way possible.

i also uploaded pictures of the mccarren park pool party with spankrock, gang gang dance, and shy child. there are some of dodgeball, an enormous inflatable slip n' slide, and cute kids running around, as well!
brace yourself, there are a lot of pictures for this post, but nothing like previous flickr sets.

i'll be the goose if you take a gander...

McCarren Park Pool

super amazing slip n' slide!

dodgeball!

cool kids

shy child. right after i discovered i was "press"

the rub.

gang gang dance. what up, alliyah!

spank. no, i have no idea what's on his face.

with amanda blank. she is so dope. ill. mad cool. and other phrases/words i should never say.

SURPRISE, MIA! diplo was there somewhere, too, but i didn't catch him.

i left the show with a little crush on ronnie darko (who, incidentally, is the dj who asked for my number at their austin show, ha ha), some unmerited feelings of self-importance, pictures, and very, very drunk.

there are more pictures on my flickr, if you are so inclined.

last night i heard many gunshots in a row...like POW POW POW POWPOPOPOWPOWPOWPOWPOW!!, and it was pretty scary...at least i think they were gunshots, but i can't be sure because i've never really been around many guns to know exactly what a real-life gun sounds like.
all i know is that i saw people just hanging out across the street at the housing projects, so maybe they weren't. or they're a regular occurance, and people are pretty much desensitized to that kind of thing. i don't really feel unsafe in my neighborhood, though. just...gunshots, you know? unsettling!

anyway, i'm going to watch some weeds and fall asleep.
tomorrow i go to showrooms!

sending love love love to you all.

yeah, that's quite possible. i guess it's pretty easy to jump to conclusions when you're alone at 4 am, living across the street from the projects.

uh no shit! anyway, I've seen the first 2 eps of weeds (yes jesse, i did say 'eps') and liked them a lot, so we just netflixed it (and yep, that's a verb). We should talk. :) I haven't had a chance to look at all your flickr pix, but I will soon and I love these!
missing my sunshine more than you know zozo

I am a big fan. The first time I saw Dave (THE dirty projector) play was at the western vinyl SXSW showcase at the hideout a few years ago, where there were maybe 12 people in attendance. He was just putting out slaves graves & ballads, and played songs from that and the Getty Address, with James Sumner's animated projections. It was amazing and totally blew my mind and my sxsw load. It was the first sxsw showcase I went to, and it ruined me, cause nothing came close.
I unfortunately missed his set that night, but I heard it was an acoustic, quiet set at the end.
